We took the boat out watch the famous Ganga Aarti in Benares. Seeing it from right on the water is quite an experience (mosquito attacks withstanding of course).
Then, we also saw the second aarti right from the ghat! My mother and I woke up before dawn, walked through all sorts of wild street animals (and other stuff I won’t mention) and made it to see the sunrise ceremony on the river. Awesome! Even though we couldn’t pass through some huge bulls in the dark, a wild pig scared us, then a wild dog protected us from the pig, and we had to witness people defecating and watch where we stepped – I’d do it again in a heartbeat!
