Zoe Saldana Moving Away From her Action Image with “Live By Night”

When I first heard that Zoe Saldana was moving away from “Action” blockbusters I thought to myself “Zoe’s an Action star?”

But then I realized that she has had a year full of

 mega blockbuster action roles! It’s not that she hasn’t done drama before, it’s that her action roles have been ultra A-list and her recent dramatic roles (like “Nina”) flew under the radar or didn’t get the positive reviews that she deserves.

But here comes another period piece, Ben Affleck’s “Live by Night.” Simply having Affleck involved will lend this movie some clout. “One of my goals is to always keep growing,” says Zoe. “In the last 10 years I’ve been mastering the roles of action-driven superheroes and films that are more in the science fiction genre, so this was a step forward in terms of me trying to continue evolving as an artist.”

This movie is set to open this coming weekend, and Zoe is playing a Cuban immigrant named Graciella Corrales in the middle of an illegal liquor distribution ring in Florida. Interesting! Latinos will be undoubtedly upset that they don’t cast Cubans to play Cubans but given the choice of A-listers out there she really does seem to be the best fit for such a role. Sadly, I’m probably going to have to watch her make out with Affleck *cringe!!!* but that’s My problem. And maybe Bradley Cooper’s (although he might be into that kind of thing).

Zoe adds, ““Sometimes as actors we are filled with self-doubt . . . He really believed in me that I could pull this off,” she said. “It’s not every day you find a director that really, really believes in you enough so that you can believe in yourself.” *** ugh, I can picture them kissing right now***

But if you’re not a fan of dramas, don’t worry – Zoe Saldana’s role in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is up for the watching, and I hear there are A LOT of Avatar sequels in the mix.
