It’s time to get a bit mystical again. Funny, I used to be offended by that word. Most Hindu men are. Colloquially, it implies that people regard what over a BILLION of us (>15% of world’s population) take as every day experience as strange or unusual. Then, somebody pointed out to me the Actual definition of the word.
mys·ti·cal
[ˈmistək(ə)l]
adjective
1.
relating to mystics or religious mysticism.
“the mystical experience”
2.
inspiring a sense of spiritual mystery, awe, and fascination.
“the mystical forces of nature”
It is that SECOND definition that is offensive. The Indian man in me jumps out and yells “How DARE you find my every day reality built on thousands of years of culture ‘mysterious’ or ‘fascinating!'” However, that FIRST definition is spot on! So I can’t complain 🙂.
mys·tic
[ˈmistik]
noun
1.
a person who seeks by contemplation and self-surrender to obtain unity with or absorption into the Deity or the absolute, or who believes in the spiritual apprehension of truths that are beyond the intellect.
How can anyone possibly be offended by THAT definition?? That describes quite accurately what we’re about to explore today.
