Society feeds off of love, intrigue and drama. Fans of actors, musicians and athletes follow the
lives of their favorite celebrities as they would do a favorite soap opera or television character on
a weekly basis.
These real lives have become a spectator’s sport to their billions of fans all around the world. So
much so has been the case that it is impossible to pass the checkout line at the grocery store
without seeing the latest tabloid of a famous couple either getting married, filing for divorce or
cheating on one another.
The ugly reality is that these rumors and speculations take shape before the honeymoon period is
even over. Sadly, for most couples – due to their careers – have to live their lives in the spot
light. This tragic stereotype of marriages not lasting long in Hollywood is all too real.
Because of the high pedestal that fans have put their idols on, society has seemed to have forgotten
that these are real lives and not just movies that will end as soon as the credits start to roll.
Let’s face it, sex and drama are what sells. Famous couples who have been married for years and
sometimes decades are simply not interesting. Who would want to read about people who are
normal, healthy and happy just like the rest of us? Where’s the variety in that? There is simply
no excitement because you already know what’s going to be coming up around the next
corner. There are no sudden twists and turns – just the same damn thing.
It’s not every day we hear about celebrities who have managed to escape the stereotype of
treating a marriage as a publicity stunt. But, they are indeed out there. The identity of these
famous couples may shock you. They have climbed the ladder to stardom and left their mark on
the entertainment industry – even though they may not live their lives in suspense leaving us guessing what’s going to happen next.
Even so, perhaps we should sit back and give them a hand who, although their every
move seems to be exaggerated and under a microscope all the time, have managed to
maintain marriages that have stood the test of time.
CELEBRITY MARRIAGES THAT HAVE STOOD THE TEST OF TIME
(and you’re welcome for not making this one of those posts where you have to hit the “Next” button a million times 😉).
Australian actor Hugh Jackman and his wife actress Deborra-Lee Furness have clearly proven
themselves not to come from the same mold as the majority of marriages in Hollywood who
seem to treat matrimony as a short-term courtship rather than a life time commitment. Not only
have they been married since 1996, but this is also the first marriage for both.
Sarah Jessica Parker, who is best known for her portrayal as Carrie Bradshaw in the hit television
series Sex in the City has been married to fellow actor Matthew Broderick since 1997. He shot to
stardom during his lead role in the 1986 hit movie Ferris Buellers Day Off.
English soccer player and former Spice Girl David and Victoria Beckham have been married
since 1999. Victoria shot to fame as a pop-culture
