Why Shilajit is My New Favorite Supplement
Shilajit is a sticky, tar-like substance found in the Himalayas. It’s formed from the gradual decomposition of plants and minerals over millennia. Traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine, Shilajit’s composition varies depending on the source, but it’s generally rich in fulvic acid and trace minerals.
Anand’s Shilajit Milk
This recipe is a simple and delicious way to enjoy Shilajit.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1/2 teaspoon Shilajit resin (I use Everest brand Pure Himalayan Organic Shilajit Resin – Gold Grade)
- 1 teaspoon honey (optional)
Instructions:
- Warm the milk in a saucepan over low heat. Do not boil.
- While the milk warms, use a mortar and pestle to grind the Shilajit resin into a fine powder. This can be tricky, so be patient! Alternatively, some brands of Shilajit come pre-powdered. You don’t need to do this with Everest Brand, it comes with a little tar “shovel” and you can mix in the paste as is.
- Once the milk is warm, whisk in the Shilajit powder until dissolved.
- If desired, add honey for a touch of sweetness.
- Enjoy your Shilajit milk!
Tips:
- Start with a small amount of Shilajit and adjust to your taste. It has a distinct earthy flavor.
- Experiment with different types of milk to find your favorite combination.
- You can also add other spices like cinnamon or cardamom for a more complex flavor profile.
