What do you get when you have No Doubt minus Gwen Stefani? Tony Kanal shares some views on this new phase for No Doubt members.
Tony Kanal, the bass player of No Doubt and former boyfriend of Gwen Stefani, says “To be abundantly clear, No Doubt is four people, and that could never be recreated or replicated. ” He is of course talking about the new project No Doubt members have put together called Dreamcar.
SO THE QUESTION: What do you get when you have No Doubt minus Gwen Stefani? Something that sounds like an Emo band trying to play 80s New Wave music, that’s what!
It’s definitely interesting – HERE, click the album cover to check out Dreamcar and tell me what you think!
Tony adds, “I think it’s the kind of situation where you go through different phases. Right now Gwen’s focusing on her solo stuff, and we’re focusing on Dreamcar. No Doubt will always be there; we’ve experienced things together that no one else will ever experience with us. It’s a family that will always be there, and the music we’ve created will always be there. We’re just going through a period where everybody’s kind of doing their thing.”
It’s been over 20 years since No Doubt’s “Tragic Kingdom,” the band’s third album, put them on the map with songs like “Don’t Speak.” The men of the group — Kanal, Young and Dumont — have spent the past three years putting together this Dreamcar album in secrecy with new frontman Davey Havok, of bands AFI, Blaqk Audio and XTRMST.
